  2. I have owned the A4A for about a year and have had good results. Yamaha did take some time to get the updates done but now that they finally did I don't have too many gripes. Compared to my older Marantz sr6008 the Yamaha is a more refined sound. When I first setup the Yamaha it had some strange sound to the dialog on tv content that my wife even commented on. Too many filters and options are turned on when letting the Yamaha YPAL do its thing. I basically turned off all the things Yamaha turns on and adjusted the settings myself. Sure this isn't for everybody and does take knowledge to do so but the result is superior to the Marantz and Yamaha's YPAL setup. I used the A4A to power Polk R700 and they did okay but could use more power to get the most of them when pushed but that would be the case with most AVR IMO. I also bi-amped the R700 and it made a notable difference and would likely satisfy most people. Currently I use a Mcintosh 7106 for the front 3 channels using the preouts and use the A4A for the surround and atmos channels. I am very satisfied with the Yamaha and I think it would be received better if the YPAL wasn't so wonky.

  3. Happy New Year, Andrew and Kristie, from Belize! Great review as usual! I just wanna say that Yamaha is great, but the focus should be on pairing/collaboration between speaker manufacturers and AVR manufacturers. Personally, for whatever it's worth, an outright admittance to a Klipsch + Onkyo setup has never been unliked/ disproved. I am glad that you gave the Yamaha a chance in all fairness though. Perhaps the new focus on AVRs' marketing/selling point should be collaboration with speaker makers??? anyways, merry new year!

  4. Did they ever fix the pop when you eject a CD? Also, I have no need for Church in Vienna DSP when listening to SACD. I want to hear the artist’s performance without extra artificial DSP fluff. However, the Yamaha has got streaming down perfectly. SiriusXM always displays the correct metadata and Amazon Music starts a song from true 0 seconds, not 2 seconds in like Denon/Marantz.

  5. Thanks for educating us on these complex devices. I was told at a big box store the Marantz cinema 50 would
Be adequate to power a 3.1 JBL HDI series setup (4 ohm ). But what I took from this video is receivers are not the best/good choice for 4 ohm speakers. That an external amp is needed or recommended to make such speakers shine to their full intended potential. Thank you, appreciate the knowledge/help.

  6. I like Yamaha for allowing manual equalizer adjustment not relying on the auto setup

  7. Since I am based in the EU, the review of the Nakamichi DRAGON 11.4.6 would be great one day! Awesome Video as unsual!

  8. $1700 for 7.2 lol garbage.

  9. With the Yamaha surround AI on make compressed soundtracks come alive for all my video streaming apps a big difference in sound here compared to other AVR.

  10. When it comes to setup, it's disappointing that you did not cover the setup from PC/Mac/tablet. Try the receivers IP address and then /setup.

  11. Good review thanks .

  12. You need to pickup a Yamaha FS830 guitar…

  13. But does it go to 11?

  14. I still can’t kill my RX-V992, bought it in 97 it’s used at least five hours a day…every day.

  15. Andrew have you or can you test the EMOTIVA speaker range for surround and 2 channel hi fi.

  16. Also, having occasional 4k/8K woes, (blink death) and I think it could be hdcp. I wish the source, repeater and sink would be more friendly explaining the problem. So I don’t know if it is AppleTV, Yamaha, or Sony, or the 8K cables, that are having the issue and what to do about it.

  17. I'm hearing some great reviews of Vincent Audio's hybrid amplifiers. Would be great to hear a review from yourself on these!!

  18. Kristi has cleverly used her segment to sell us an Onkyo 😉

  19. Do manufacturers think people are going to pay for a 7 to 11 channel receiver and use it in stereo? I wish the shady marketing would stop.

  20. I had to up the top end on the RX-A8A PEQ for the center channel (klipsch klf-c7) to make it vocals more intelligible amidst the other full range horn loaded speakers in the config. Some movies but not all also required a boost in Dialog Level. I see this more as a sensitivity of the other speakers in my mix more than the Yamaha’s doing but forgetting to turn it back down leaves me getting irritated on Atmos music with the center being too shouty on artists that decided to stick vocals on center only (bad engineer, bad engineer!). So when I get it figured out I might use Scene Selection, but for now I just keep twiddling according to each movie and music since they certainly aren’t standardized. And that’s where I want to save each setting I left with for each title! Per-title personalized settings! Because it is more than just the recording, the room, the speakers. It’s my ear.

  21. FYI someone is trying to run a Telegram scam using your likeness, sending notifications to subscribers.

  22. Sorry Yamaha switching to Denon

  23. Great review! I had the A6A. Being in IT, I setup everything from the web interface which was great. I eventually did return it as there is just too much plastic.

  24. I don't like much that plastic front and for the price it's not even an option.

  25. I guess it depends on what you pay for the Yamaha. I purchased my A4A though Walmart online from a third party seller for $1,000 along with a $100 4 year protection plan. At that price point you can't go wrong. The room correction software wanted to set my speakers as large and at 6 ohms and that really killed the sound. The only thing I used it for was to set the distances and then set them up to my liking for the rest. I really like the Yamaha A4A and highly recommend it.

  26. Andrew are you going to do a review of the Anthem MRX lineup at any point? I'd love to know how you and Kristi think it stacks up. I used to have an RXA 800 and recently moved to the MRX1140 and have been completely blown away

  27. I like your channel very much Andrew! I find a lot off home theater receiver reviews, but I'm looking for a receiver with 2 channel output that can play internet radio. Can you advice me on that one? Thanks and keep up the good work!!

  28. Did onkyo ever fix the chip overheating issue ?

  29. A4A cant process 9 channel even adding External Amp. I think Yamaha missed opportunity here. It should have allowed 9 channel with external amp and coould have given good competition to 3700 or 3800 from Denon. I would have bought A4A instead of A6A and could have saved some money.

  30. Have A6A couple of months old but manufactured in June 2022. Faced a wierd problem last few weeks when I switched to Pure Direct mode while watching movie or video on Amazone Cube (connected to AVR) it would switch off the video and audio with message on TV, no signal pl check….. . It worked on USB music or Spotify audio though but not on any video. I remember it worked earlier. Yesterday I tried that and voila it is working again. Can anybody guess what can be problem? Its on latest firmware update now. Dont know whether firmware update solved this mystery!

  31. Love the reviews! I would really like to hear your opinion on the latest Anthem MRX models!

  32. I had to choose Yamaha a2a because of the music cast option. It’s going to be a few years before I can install full ceiling speakers with hardwires. The music cast wireless surround sound speakers are a great option.

  33. One major advantage A4A has over 2800 is preouts. Even A2A has 2 preouts. I have A6A (only for future upgrade of 9 channel) bought couple of months back. Upgraded from Yamaha 677. I was thinking about 3800 but I dont want more than 2 subs (currently have 1) and additional outlay for Dirac (dont know price of Dirac in our country yet) so A6A it was.

  34. Can you clarify for us, is the RZ50 or Cinema 50 your go to receiver? Seems like you have said both?

  35. Yamaha RX are the best-looking receivers hands down. I absolutely love the clean interface and the RX is something I can put in the living room without having to hide it. Just need to save my pennies to buy one.

  36. I have the RX-A6A and I love it!
It has all of the features that I needed all rolled up into one.

  37. I am not seeing the comment I posted yesterday down below for whatever reason. I am glad that Kristi could post the Amazon deal link. I had included it in my initial message. I enjoyed this review. I recently purchased an A4A, and I would say that my experience with it is closer to Andrew's. I do feel overwhelmed by all the customization though. I really love the look of it. I think it sounds fantastic, but having to exit out of what I am watching to tinker with settings is frustrating. I wonder if I might be better suited with something like the Integra drx-3.4.

  38. I have the A6A and I have difficulty hearing the dialogue

  39. Andrew one query could I use the receiver to stream audio through two sound bars from a single TV, one with the eArc and another through the Optical fiber cable? I have managed to do so without a receiver but would it be possible to use a receiver to do the trick, and would it enhance the experience?

  40. Excellent reviews see what is expected is that when you go to sleep and mother keep telling the story need that effect do you understand

  41. I would like your impressions on Triangle Borea with a stereo amp

  42. I've been using Yamaha ever since I bought my first AV receiver. At the moment I have the RX-V 685. Personally I just hope they will alter their design either back to the old style or more closely to the stereo amps.

  43. @Andrew, which sounded better to you in movies the Yamaha A4A or the Marantz Cinema 50?

  44. I prefer Yamaha receivers because they last forever, I’ve had horrible reliability issues with Onkyo especially. Just my 2 cents.

  45. @andrew not to sound disrespectful but nowadays i am more keen to reach the end where kristy gives her comments.it sounds more like a common person would describe the receiver ..the conparison..its totally great.totally love the way she places her comments and the way she justifies why she said so.

  46. Hi…can we expect german made Teufel?maybe they will let you test it…tnx

  47. How does the Yamaha compare to the Integra 3.4?

  48. Thanks for another great review—glad Andrew and Yamaha kissed and made up. I have the A2A running Klipsh bookshelves in the living room, which sound great. Keep up the great reviews.

  49. I purchased the Yamaha A6A for 5.1.4 setup. I paired it with the Kef Q750 and Q650 centre. Agree with the neutrality of the Yamaha sound , but I have never noticed a lack of clarity or issues deciphering dialogue in movies or on netflix. I would assume that the Yamaha A4A and the A6A would have similar sound detail. Interesting…..
