I think that if you have straight hair it is not worth it because you can use like any shampoo and conditioner for people with curly hair can only use limited stuff so it’s helpful that you can customise the shampoo conditioner how you want it

It might be that there is already premade product and they made it fancy by letting you "customize" I mean like when we got to normal supermarket there is shampoo for dry hair, oily scalp, damaged hair, coloured hair, anti hair lose etc etc etc. The only difference is the colour and scent is fixed. Who knows the only thing that they customizer for ya is the colour and scent and everything else is premade.

I know she did say like there is alot of same ingredients, and what she meant is that the base product might be premade. But my thoughts are that the whole shampoo is premade like those in the supermarket just they give a custom scent and colour. That's pretty simple to customised if that's the case

You should try inecto, its quite affordable, vegan, natural, cruelty free and dosent smell to much so you dont like drone in scent!

I don’t think there is anything really bad in Pantene (apart from not being cruelty-free). If your hair reacts well to it, it’s not really bad for you.

All of the Raw sugar products I've tried made me never want to switch my products ever again, I love how I can find them at target, they are big bottles, lather pretty well, cruelty free, affordable, sulfate free and silicone free. I definitely recommend both their hair and body products if your looking for something new to try.

The frizz may be due to the way you shampoo and condition- if you tangle your hair up while washing, conditioning, or styling that can make hair frizzy. I get a lot of frizz too, but lately I've been more conscientious of the way I touch my hair and that's helped 🙂

I tried fob twice; the first time it made my hair feel so gunky and dry so I thought it was because I chose the thickening or lengthening option (whichever one uses the horse shampoo). Still used it up tho cuz $$$. But then my second STILL made my roots feel so gunky even after making a totally different formula! Idk, I wasn’t impressed at all and was pretty disappointed that I spent so much money. I’d love to hear your thoughts on future shampoos you try!

I don't go through shampoo and conditioner fast because I only wash my hair 1-3x per week, so I'm fine with spending more on hair care.
I like my Function of Beauty, I'm going through my 2nd set and the giant bottles have lasted me a year and I'm not done the bottle. It's basic and consistent and my hair stays in decent condition, so I may try something else soon.

Hi Judy! We have similar hair types and after 2 years of box dyeing and then salon dyeing, my hair was just never the same! I learned that sulfates and other common ingredients in drugstore brands were just making it worse so I started using the Pantene essential oils shampoo/conditioner line! It’s sulfate, paraben, dye free and after a year of using this line my hair is coming back to life! 🥲

It’s definitely more costly than regular Pantene at the drugstore but I find them at my local Costco for about $10/1.13L

Yes! I am glad to know that I am not the only one conflicted. I did give it a shot over a year ago, the first time it was not bad, I did see some difference (I was mainly targeting hair strengthening and color fade) but after some time it seemed like it just wasn't doing anything for me. So my boyfriend took my shampoo/conditioner (he also has colored hair and everything just seems to work for him) and I reordered FOB again, but changed one goal to hair lengthening/growth and I started to notice that I was actually shedding a lot, and I mean A LOT. Having thick hair, I do experience frequent shedding but this was concerning to me. It wasn't until my boyfriend started to use my new FOB order and he experienced hair shedding which isn't normal for him since he has thin hair. I'm not sure if it was the formula I got, but that was enough to get me to stop using FOB, which was a bummer since we spent quite a bit of money on it. We have since switched to a new brand and are experiencing better results.

I have similar hair concerns with you (hair loss? but also oily hair) and i use FOB interchangeably with Hask that is also sulphate free, since its so expensive, i also only buy it on sale and when i compare it with the Hask one it does help control oiliness, not too sure about helping with hair loss :/ my sister on the other hand loves FOB and she its the only shampoo she uses since she bought tried it last year, she was the one who recommended it to me actually
Also shampoos that arent made with sulphates tend to not lather well so thats normal!!

For frizzy hair, I would highly recommend Lush's H'Suan Wen Hua hair treatment – I'd been struggling with frizziness after bleaching my virgin hair. No regular product (drugstore or more expensive varieties) could fix my dry, wayward hair, until I started using Lush's H'Suan Wen Hua twice a month and just wash with regular drugstore shampoos. Plus, the latest formulation is vegan! #notsponsored

I’ve gone through a hair journey the past 6 months from trying new shampoos and conditioners that ended up stripping my hair really badly. I just started using Briogeo and I absolutely love it! I have straight, medium thickness, and oily hair as well and would definitely recommend. I’m using the Superfoods duo and hair mask in the green set!

As someone who has never tried function of beauty but has watched a very thoroughly done YouTube video of its marketing tactics, I honestly don't think it is that customizable or that groundbreaking in its formula or ingredients. In the us, we have function of beauty in stores and even then the ingredients of the little customizable pods you can pop in your shampoo bottles are different than the ones they list on the website.. for some reason :/
I think their marketing is genius, and it is the OG create your own beauty product- but I'm not at all surprised

There's a NZ brand that does shampoo and conditioner bars called Ethique! Cruelty free and without plastic packaging!
I have short, fine, but thick hair, and my partners thick asian short hair, we've been using the Ethique bars for a few years now!
IMO they smell really good, not expensive, and theyre usually on sale at different stockists!
I have short hair so not sure how long the product would last with medium-long hair but id say both me and partner go through one shampoo bar every 6-8 months. Worth a shot if youre looking for packaging plastic free cruelty free and local hair care!
Theyre currently our preferred brand, the shampoo bar from lush is ok, but conditioner was terrible, same for BonBon Factorie (also nz brand make yummy body scrubs etc) until the Ethique bars I found it really hard to properly lather and rinse out the product.

Not sure if the online version works the same, but from the target version they sell I would guess they just have a range of base shampoos for different hair types and add different booster shots for specific hair concerns, so the "customization" would be pretty quick on their part.

There is a video on youtube I saw years ago but it showed how they have a base formula for like conditioner and shampoo and then they add ingredients based on your goal. Most companies do have base ingredients then add special ingredients for special needs FOB difference is you choose your goals hence they can call it customized to your specific needs. The video mentioned shows how it literally took few minutes for product to be made.

Which tik tok did you see that had a list of harmful hair brands? I need to see it, my hair is a mess right now and it might be my shampoo or conditioner 😭 my hair is so frizzy and dry. I for sure need to get a hair cut. I have never dyed my hair so I'm looking for reasons as to why it has gotten so damaged.

thank you so much for this review!! I've been thinking about trying function of beauty for awhile since it's hard for me to find good products for my hair type, but the price has turned me off EVERY TIME. I'm honestly glad I've never wasted my money on it hearing how most people find it to be entirely mediocre. also – I'm inclined to believe that they do start off with a base that they simply add additional formulas into, based on the fact that my local target now sells fob products. you can buy a bottle of either a straight, wavy, curly, or coily 'base' shampoo/conditioner and up to three small vials of 'boosters' (anti frizz, replenishing, etc) to mix in.
