Have a 2013 6.1 trashcan (12 core, 64gb ram) Trying to figure out if i would see a significant multi core improvement with mac studio base model with 10 cores over my trashcan with multi core performance? Or would it would be a drawback or not much of an improvement since it has 2 cores less than my trashcan. Any ideas? Thanks

So it's pointless to buy the studio with the ultra processor and how much hotter would the laptop run compared to the studio? Is the mac pro netter then the 2017 imac?

So, know we got again what are the proes and cons about the system, which is really nice and good.
Sadly I have mixed feelings, I am a Mac person, but currently I use for 3D another windows system in the household.
Macs can theoretically perform great in 3D and even do RT, but if nothing is optimized for it and if the hardware is bad designed for it, well, there is nothing but to say that it is not worth for my cases.

I may upgrade to M-Macs once they have RT cores inside the chips or can uitilize it software wise.
Or sooner or later I may make a deal on ebay, because with the Ultras and new Macs the old ones have a never seen price drop of around 20-33% even after 6 month.
Saw a couple of deals already on ebay, where a MBP m1 Max for 3800€ system was sold für less than 3k and a 5.8k MBP M1 Max with upgrades for less than 3.8k.
    It is ridiculous.
For me personally it is still too much, not because of the money, I would have spend the 6k for the Ultra if it would have beaten the 3090 with OptiX in 3D applications, but yeah, for a system that I want to get rid of in 2-3 years or which is way slower as the windlows laptop I can use, well I guess for all those it is better to wait.
But hope you keep us informed once they push their 3D cores software wises, I still have the feelings that the logic board is limited to deliver more wattage to the GPU cores simoultanously.
And with the M2 it is like having Intel back with their mini steps.

For me, as I sit at least a month out still of delivery for my Studio Ultra 20c 48c gpu 64gb ram I cannot find any video or information really diving into Photoshop performance. I am currently on M1 Mini and M1 MacBook Air. As a full-time architecture photographer I work in layers. A LOT of layers. anywhere from 15-50 exposure layers per final image. My current bottle neck is wait time for layers to load from LR and waiting for these layers inside of Photoshop to align and merge. would LOVE to see real world uses of this.

    Hi!
    I have a MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16GB
I have the issue that creating an PDF with Preview making drag & drop png into pdf, the laptop have a lot of issues to perform this work and often Preview doesn't accept to drop the png into the pdf file.
Can you perform a check if this is really an issue or only single point fail?
It was 1 pdf and starting more of 10 png files dropped.
    Thanks!

This channel is what I would call just a benchmark channel. Average users including windows users don't have a 3080 etc. Nor do they have a 8K camera. Most video editors use 4K, in reality, no Home Theaters use 8K unless you're a millionaire. So in the real world these tests are pretty much useless. I think being obsessed with benchmarks is pretty useless. Along as the machine is capable of doing your workload, really who cares if shaves off 2 seconds on geek bench.

This is not going to be “fixed” because it works as designed. It is quite normal for even the best tuned GPU centric apps to not utilize 100%. If apps can utilize around 80% it is usually win. You can fire up most games and look at GPU metrics you will see that it is very rare for them to be 100% utilizing all the GPU pipelines (vertex, fragment, geometric and compute) all the time. And this has to do with many reasons including hardware and software. Just the reality of engineering especially on GPU. And for ages, it has been two things, “increase bus bandwidth/speed” or “increase cores” to improve performance, instead of the unrealistic expectation that apps will somehow can use 100% of all cores. Even benchmark apps can barely do that.

The Mac Studio reeks to me of typical Apple overpriced stop gap tech that you will rapidly regret buying.

    So PASS!!!!

I am planning to buy, 10C MAX 32 GB. instead of 32 GB if I opt for 64GB will that show any performance improvement ? or just 32 GB will do in case of 10C MAX? Kindly reply !

Too many CPU cores with not enough RAM means that video processing many not use all cores because it wants each core to have enough ram to process a chubj of video worth processing. So 64 cores with 64GB of RAM would leave each core with far less than 1GB, especially since RAM is shared with GPUs leaving a lot less to be used by CPU cores.
