I hate Netflix for doing this and will always hold a grudge about it. This and I Am Not Okay With This (but especially this) were fantastic shows that had so much going for them, as oppose to Kissing Booth that got renewed for a second and third movie like wtf. Just shows that Netflix cares way more about sales than quality, even with the millions the company makes daily. On the other hand, even though The Society was a Netflix show I wish they could have found some way to keep it going for a season 2 but have it on prime or another service instead!!!

this show had the 1st gay characters that were actually real and likeable to me. they didn't feel shoehorned. they humanize their feelings and have a real dilemma. it actually helped me see and understand gay people better.

Never getting over this. I cant believe they cancelled it. They need to bring it back. 🙁 Sadpandas. So many absolutely horrible shows being renewed, but of course The Society got cancelled. THE SHOW WAS GOOD.

    Just finished it.
Hated the first 'premise' after Cassandra. Otherwise, after the whole 'take ur guns away' political thing that they did and completely forgot about, the story was great.
The thing I don't think people fully understand was the idea of what happened.

Clearly, the parents of the children sold their soul to the devil (crossroads) and they all had a specific price they had to pay. Only a couple paid the price that they requested, and the rest were refusing to pay. When they kept discussing this "$1,500,000", it made me realize something. That was to "remove the smell". But it was a price to remove the smell a 'second time'.
Meanwhile, what they fail to fully address is why the smell was there and more importantly, what the smell was.
That ones simple. The first episode they talk about being weighed and measured — which denotes the idea of doing sins and you've been damned to hell. That's to the parents.
The children, however, are a different story. Campbell was the price that their parents had to pay, along with the hearing of his brother. Campbell, by contrast, 'is' the devil in the season. More in a moment.

5:38 the reason why Campbell was designed to act and be portrayed like this is due to the notion above. His brother (and cousin) remember him as having no remorse or guilt, essentially a "psychopath". But you start to realize he isn't just a psychopath. He's pulling the strings. He's not just a step ahead, he's miles ahead of others as he's never directly doing the deeds; he's simply "pulling the strings". An allegory for 'the devil'. You'll notice this through the entire series, rewatch it again.
I don't think Campbell made the show. In all honesty, Campbell on the screen gave me the same creeps as Joe Goldberg in Season 1 of You. Just someone who is so close to real life that it makes you sick just remembering that people are actually like that out there. From the way he abused Elle to how he acts toward everyone, as if he knows he can get away with being a complete and utter piece of s.

I wanted to get that out first. The dog in Episode 3 when Cassandra is shot is symbolism of a hell hound. More specifically, the "dues" being paid provided by 'yours truly'; The man pulling the strings who convinced Dewey to pull the gun…as you found out a couple episodes later. Elle then takes the dog in and the following day, the dog is 'dead'. You may recall the story of what he did to the bird, and you're thinking of that as this happens. That's the point. But it wasn't directly to "Watch the dog be tortured", it was to keep Elle obedient and reliant on him, and give him the attention.

Becca's baby? That's the other price due. Another classic trope from crossroads; The idea that your "First" or your childs "First born" is property of hell.
Speaking of first borns and prices due; Campbell and Sam are pretty striking to say the least, right? Campbell, a "Psychopath", Sam, who's deaf. Pretty coincidental to have two messed up children underneath the same house. The answer here is kind of simple. Campbell's soul was the price for one, Sam's hearing was the price for the other. There's even a scene where Sam said there was one point in his childhood he could hear, and another time where Campbell wasn't "always" like that, but one day he "just was".

Bus driver. This one is one that they noted the last episode and the end of Episode 9. That bus driver was exactly who you should think it is now. That was a crossroads demon, and the bus they were taking was to hell.
Why's it a mirror of their exact city? You were given the hint at the first episode and nearly every episode since. "West Sham".

I think I covered everything. You can fill in the blanks if not.
So let's just end this with the following. Here's the resolve:

West Ham is a town that was created upon a lie, and the people in power, the people who obtained their luxury and "privilege" were granted this from selling 'their' souls without paying the toll. When the time came up to pay their toll, some of the parents paid in the ways that were provided; As above. Others…decided to 'take the risk' and not care. They wanted their power. The children were the price to pay after their time was up; The 'smell' in the city was sulfur, which was only to be removed by paying the price.
The bus driver was the devil and brought the kids to hell. Meanwhile, as above, Becca was carrying the child of a demon and the one pulling the strings since they got into the 'new' city was Campbell.
    Finally to the finally:

The episodes where they sneakily talk about religion, they tell you notes that relate specifically to being damned, crossroad 'sell souls', and to potential possession or being birthed from demon. It's pretty clear that Campbell wasn't Human, and Becca was giving birth to a demon child, all the way up until even the birth, where the baby was obviously a still birth. Campbell pulled the strings in the season from every single death, outside of the snake bite, and was even more reluctant to "obtain power" from the first episode all the way to the last. He wanted that power. And that's where you have to look back to the first episode again. He could have taken the power immediately. Instead, he waited. That's pretty interesting, along with how he didn't actually 'kill' anyone, and how he didn't actually try to, aside from Elle, hurt anyone. He got other people to do it for him. So you have to sit there and remember the last part of that. Why could and did he talk to Elle? She wasn't from that city. She moved there. Her parents did nothing wrong. She, along with numerous others, were bystanders in this, and he can harm them…he can't harm the ones who were apart of this bond. Which, as we know, primarily were the main characters.

Sucks there won't be a season 2. But at least there was enough clues in this season to figure out the resolve so I can sleep at night. 3 hours wasted on trying to figure this out lol. This is why I 'hate' ending on cliff hangers unless they 100% will obtain a season to actually end the show.

I’ve tried to look up what could’ve potentially happened in s2 and didn’t find much but the creator did mention that he did not wanna give away details “too early”. So I’m hopeful something will happen, either it getting picked up or them just telling us what was gonna happen

Big media conglomerates will never cease to amaze me. They want all the quick cash cows, and never willing to put in a little time and effort to get some long lasting success. Why they produce nonsense shows like Ginn and Georgia, A sad excuse of a cowboy bebop adaption and countless other shitty movies and TV shows is beyond me. They keep churning out money for these flash in a pan tv shows with no substance.

The only good thing about the cancellation is that we don't get to see the cringe Will storyline that the creator alluded to in interviews and set up with bad writing. They were definitely going to kill that kid off during the eventual riot and the girl with guns is the only minority that would survive that based on her poorly written speech. I would not have liked to see whatever the writer meant in his interviews, no thanks Netflix…dodged a bullet.

At least the show didn’t have the chance to get bad! Like don’t get me wrong, I would have LOVED to have a second season and I’m really mad that we didn’t get to see that, but at least we weren’t disappointed by the story because I think that would have been even more frustrating… Anyways that’s what I think about when I don’t want to get sad that it ended lol

i love how this show had a lot of different plots, but none of them were completely standalone. you had a main character from one storyline interacting and being a part of someone else’s storyline, which made it all feel linked and realistic

There was a book series called Gone, with literally the same premise and IT'S AMAZING. If any of ya'll were bummed that the show was cancelled, the book series does an amazing job at fleshing out the characters and supernatural mystery behind it all. Also, some of the kids get powers…it is way too cool
