India government asked to respond to legal challenges to citizenship law reviews
India’s Supreme Court has given the government four weeks to respond to more than 100 legal challenges to its new citizenship law.
The Citizenship Amendment Act has led to weeks of protests across the country.
It gives persecuted minorities from three neighbouring countries the right to apply for citizenship but excludes Muslims.
Critics say the legislation is discriminatory and petitions were filed challenging its constitutional validity.

It is v. unlikely that the majority Moslem popn being persecuted in their own country. India is already over populated & the borders r porous. If the Moslem immigrants r also given Indian citizenship, a lot of people will immigrate 4 economic reasons 2 obtain this benefit. In fact, CAA is giving citizenship 2 all the people who immigrated b4 2014 to provide them a proper identity.

It's not enough for Islamist activists to want to persecute Sikhs, Hindus, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Bahais, Zoroastrians and others in the countries near India. They now want to ensure that those people who are being oppressed, ofttimes to the point of being assaulted, raped and murdered, are not given safe haven in India and allowed to become citizens. This is very similar to the policies of fanatical Nazis who tried to block Jews from escaping their deaths in Europe and reaching safety elsewhere during World War II.
