The media has now started reported the latest government plans to set themselves above the law by asking parliament to let them ignore court judgements. This is another step on the path away from democracy when the government cannot even be held to account for the same laws that they themselves pass.

Peter Tuffley –
This is reminiscent of the 1934 Nazi legislation that retrospectively declared Hitler's "Night of the Long Lives" to be legal.
Maharaj Durai –
Danish minister JAILED … finally accountability handed out, now pple can know other humans n societies do exist outside one's borders. Now only other Gov War criminals be taken to task…. examplilery conduct shown by Danish … WELL DONE.
Evan Giles –
This will be the first time in history that you will have a revolution in every country

The question is – how to gain back democracy once it has been lost?
minsa pint –
If this was all clearly stated in the manifesto and the Tories were given an 80 seat majority, it seems misleading to describe these measures as anti-democratic. If people are getting exactly what they voted for, that is democracy.
Christian Reinisch –
an example from an other part of Europe:
the new Interior Minister of Austria is also the Mayor of a Town with the "DolfuĂź Museum"
james paley –
If it happens it means everyone in power or has money and those celebs the wrong uns will be protected, and get off Scott free. Just by paying a fee. And change the decisions both way so if you're innocent they will be some fit ups, also to cover up the truth. Summat happened and they are looking for a way out, with all the smokescreens, and deceptive news look here not there shite. Get rid of him emergency re election to vote for a new prime minister. Before anymore damage to us happens. Because they have not lost anything, if he doesn't resign we have to make him leave. It's the people's duty and rights if not by next year we won't have any because he will have stripped and stole them we won't be allowed to breath or talk or blink or anything else
Andrew Wright –
Get this shower of grotesque incompetent shite out.
Graham Melbourne –
More copycat US moves. The USA already have a law that enables the house to bar the Supreme Court from considering specific cases.
Michael Green –
I believe from my friends that the sniffer dogs normally sit down to indicate drugs as much as I would have enjoyed any politicians having to see the plastic glove!
Harry Hirsch –
If you want to get an idea of what a right wing government is able to pull off, take a look at Nazi germany! Doesn't make it better if the criminals speak english instead of german…

A Government to be above the Law/s? Her Majesty the Queen is still Government's "Boss". The Queen could, can, show her Ace of cards, push the her own authoritarian button, dissolve a disgraceful, untrustworthy PM etc-oust them all out! Another New York, Grifting, "CON Artiste" has crossed the UK's thin-blue-line too many times.
gloin10 –
The UK will either dissolve, and soon, or it will slide into a sort of incompetent neo-fascism.
The vast majority of British people do not understand that, without a WrITTEN CONSTITUTION, they have NO rights.
They only have temporary privileges which are revocable at the whim of whichever party can command a majority in the House of Commons.
The vast majority of British people still do NOT understand that the UK's 'system' of governance is built on the unquestioned assumption that everyone who enters politics is a 'Good Chap' who will play according to the agreed rules.
Such a system has NO defence against the likes of BloJo and his cronies. The UK has been captured at the centre of its overly centralised system by a gang of rogues, grifters and corrupt shysters.
It may never recover from this episode.

How do the Met police think it's acceptable to not investigate the Christmas party scandal or ignore the unbiased opinion of the sniffer dog. It's time the whole system was investigated. However today we do know one thing the PM does well with the birth of another child!

Regarding the lack of public protest, I must admit I've become accustomed to the idea that "it will have to wait till after the pandemic". I went on several anti-Brexit marches up until 2019, then when Covid hit I kind of thought (along with a lot of other people I suspect) "Oh well, we'd better leave it a few months – now's not the time". Then of course 6 months became 18 (and probably 24+ by the time Omicron is done…) and of course we can't let this stuff go unopposed forever…
The question we ought to be asking is how we can get back to doing mass protest in a reasonably Covid-safe manner so that, whether it's sanctioned by the authorities or not, we will at least be seen by the general public to be acting responsibly. Lots of EU27-based commenters on the Rejoin groups are incredulous that we're not marching in the streets *now*…

2019 was a turning point for England.
Those who refused to hear truth then are now condemned to never hearing truth again.
By this time next year, channels such as this will be gone. Comments like this will be gone.
I would say 'mark my words'. But people like us will have 'disappeared'.
You may not be ready to admit it yet. But you know where 'governments' like this go.
Kevin Daniels –
They do as they like now, there needs to be a power in place to oversee and be able to put a stop to poor decisions. Oh wait there is US stop voting these dickheads in that party have never done anything for the working class.
Peter J Hillier –
This Government is rotten to the Core. Great Phil, your Critique of this terrible Government was excellent, thank you.
Michael Mayo –
Any Irish in your family Phil? You may need a new venue in the EU. They are coming to take you away. Do, you know what Phil, the Tories have been bushing up on the German and Italian politics anno 1930s.
Michael Mayo –
You have just give the answer to Bozo and his gangs irrational behaviour Phil. There have been governments with similar political attitudes that were also high on medicine. I lot of Brits died trying to help them quit their habit. And hear we have a dog calling out a likely medicine misuser.
G Rid –
Why the fuck are they all impersonating police officers now?
Monkey Funk –
Lets say they get this through and we live under the yolk of it for the next couple of years, if Keith wins the next election will he immediately seek to overturn it? Has he declared his positon on this or is he looking for ways it may profit him if he gets into office?
Otto Lehikoinen –
The lack of constitution and FPTP two party system has lead to a situation in which the UK government is dismantling the court system as it's understood in any democracy, supplanting it with a medieval version of judges favoring those who pay the most.
Andy Brown –
Wonder how westminster plan to get this past scottish courts who stood up and said nope to the proroguing
whssy –
Tories get in again at the next election and Britain will be exporting its own political asylum seekers within 18 months.
Binyam Mehari –
3:00, you'd think Phil was describing the GOP…..
Glen Tomkins –
Your man may actually have gone our Trump one better with this sniffer dog thing. That is some impressive buffoonery in office, and discredit where discredit is due. But the US still has the mother country beat in terms of getting rid of a judiciary able and willing to check the current govt. We did it it a bit more directly by letting the Rs appoint a bunch of their political machine hacks to the federal bench. They neither need nor want Congress or the president able to stop the courts from stopping them, because sometimes Congress and president fall into D hands, and then they want the courts to tie the govt in knots. We are way ahead of you lot in our progress towards one party rule.

The Metropolitan police visit to arrest Boris is long overdue.
mark lawton –
Why aren’t people dragging him out by his hair and setting him alight? How long are people going to let him ** on them before they actually do something?
Oldish andWoke-ish –
There must be no alternative to deregulated capitalism. If they can't get enough little fascists to vote for it, it will be imposed by force.
Pat Coburn –
Ad nauseam . . . . The Supreme Leader gets away with anything the grassroots allow and ignore. Before you know it the english electorate will be like North Korea and just submit to everything spewing from his ass, I mean his mouth. Confused; why does The Supreme Leader quote Latin phrases ad nauseam, as he has nothing but utter contempt for anything European? Just wondering.
