New Kia e-Niro EV full review – the perfect 300-mile range family electric car 2022

April 14, 2023

The all new Kia e-Niro EV could be the best value 300 mile electric crossover. Formally called the e-Niro, this new EV can also be purchased as a PHEV and hybrid. The last version became Britain’s best selling EV behind Tesla’s 3 because it is a practical, excellent value near 300 mile car with that magical 7 year warranty.

Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.

In this episode Jonny Smith reviews the £34,995 new version, which features bolder styling (the last one was a bit conservative), has a slightly longer range, is slightly lighter, charges a smidge quicker and a tad more boot space.

The e-Niro (as was) still fundamentally features the same 201bhp (150kW) motor with 7 sec 0-62, and the same LG Chem 64kWh batt pack, but now travels 285 miles WLTP. It comes with much of the tech and parts from its EV6 larger brother (like the useful V2L external power source plug), and can be ordered with a tow bar for the first time.

  1. Not only popular in the UK, but also the best selling car in the Netherlands in 2020 and 2021. More than half of sales have been the BEV. It also has become really popular as a taxi, which always surprised me, because I thought the space in the back wouldn't be good enough for that (I never use taxis myself), but this video showed me how wrong I was about that.

  2. p.s. April '23: There's a new (bigger!) Kona Electric coming soon!

  3. Good to see lots of cyclists out enjoying the outdoors / some reasonable British weather!

  4. 6:22 Doesn't Kona Electric also have multi-link rear suspension?

  5. I have the old Niro, hybrid, and yes I have always found the old Niro boring except for the backend. I'm looking forward to getting my Niro EV

  6. MILK FLOATS SAME THING BATTERY POWERED CRAP

  7. Very good presentation-clear & logical points.TRhanks

I have a 2019 e-Niro (as it was called then) and I love it. I would consider upgrading to the '23 Niro EV but unfortunately our government has taken away the tax incentive for Korean cars!!! Guess I'll just have to wait. Still won't go over to Tesla.

  9. Zombie Mode Jonny. Zombie Mode. Why is nobody talking about this? Do you get paid for doing these reviews?? 🧟

  10. I like Jonny's presentation style a lot. He has the knack of holding your interest all the way through the video, with no pointless distractions, like throwing parcel shelves to one side, or pushing sticks up false exhausts….. Just a proper, clearly presented review, giving you the information you want and need…. The Niro EV. The eNiro evolved and made a bit better…..

  11. I’ve owned both Niro 2 and 3 HEV in the old shape, and due to build shortages (ordered a new Sportage) I’m getting a new Niro 2. And can I add, I’ve used these vehicles as PHV. Love the HEV in both

  12. For some families with children, I can imagine that it may be important to have a Disney streaming service in the car and for people it may be important to have Spotify or perhaps Apple Music

  13. It may depend on whether you want modern digital technology and access to various streaming services in the car and so on. If you want an iPhone or a Samsung mobile phone on four wheels, then you might choose something like a Tesla or similar

  14. I actually think that people think that the appearance of the car is too strange. that they rather prefer the previous version

  15. A little feedback on your audio quality. Your theme music is 10x louder than your voice, so when I've turned it up to hear your intro, and the music comes in, it blows my head off.

  16. Genesis GV60 is another level & £££££ .

  17. Great comedy content 😂

  18. Hi Jonny, just seen this great video & subscribed, even though you rated it highly did you feel that it was noisy inside compared to other EVS? ID4, Ioniq5..
I've an Eniro & find this is my only small gripe with an otherwise brilliant car. Keep them coming & Happy Xmas.

  19. You told us the name had been changed three times. We got it the first time. Also, you said eckcetra. It's hard to hear. Kinda good review, just needs to be finessed.

  20. Wonderful and practical review.

  21. Great car, however take the claimed mileage with a pinch of salt. This time of year and mostly motorway driving at 60mph, you will get around 220 miles range. Thats it, slightly better in summer though, around the 250 mark. Obviously that is my own experience, but i was suprised as to how much range is lost during the cold months. 300 mile range claim is mis-leading.

  22. Thank you, that was most interesting. I have one on order (trim level 3) though there appears to be a lengthy lead time for delivery. Unfortunately the top spec model looks like it will trip the new so-called Tesla Tax to kick in from 2025 (UK)
