Publisher: Aerosoft GmbH
Release Date: 30 Mar, 2017

Price: £13.99

On the Road – the realistic truck simulator for the PC by the developer Toxtronyx is currently in an advanced stage of development. Use the Early Access phase to tell us about your own wishes and ideas, while being able to explore Germany’s roads already – for a discounted price!

In the Early Access version, there are already about 1500 km of motorway and more than 300 km of country roads at your disposal – including 12 detailed motorway interchanges. The player can already stop by in 7 cities in North Germany (for now) like Hamburg, Bremen and Berlin, with unique road designs and sights. During the Early Access, 11 more cities will follow, e.g. Cologne, Dortmund, and Munich. Additionally, numerous other points of interest are waiting to be discovered during the journey, as well.

The terrain rendition is based on real satellite data. Additionally, different weather conditions and an authentic day/night cycle are already implemented, with seasons following shortly.

Thanks to the cooperation with MAN, the truck appears very realistically – including the MAN TipMatic transmission, retarder/Intarder and service modes. Articulated truck trains with different trailers, lift axles, and vehicle styles with consequences for the reputation are planned for the Early Access.

On the Road also features a basic economic system, allowing the player to found his own company. In the long term more features are planned to make this system more complex, e.g. purchasing licences and hiring drivers. Join in now and take part in the development of On the Road!

Features of the Early Access version for now:
Game world:
ca. 1450 km motorway and ca. 320 km country road, to a scale of 1:10
12 detailed models of motorway interchanges
7 cities, some of them with unique road designs (e.g. the roundabout in Horn or bridge constructions)
numerous POIs in cities and near motorways and country roads
all large waterways
Ground based on real satellite data
Different weather conditions
MAN TipMatic transmission
Service modes
Solo drives possible
Economic system
Found your own company

  1. Hi Mike.
I purchased this waaaay back in March 2018, can't believe how quick the time goes. Anyhow, not much has been added to On The Road. It's a real shame because I had high hopes this was going to be an excellent alternative when needing a break from ETS/ATS.
I re-read your Steam review again you made back in 2018 and it's practically the same game today in 2022.
The Devs, Toxytronic, have concentrated their efforts to porting OTR to consoles. Now I hear they are developing a new game called, Heavy Cargo, slated to be released this year in 2022. I think the guys over at SCS should say something about that considering it's the same name as their 'Heavy Cargo' DLC.

  2. Unless this game gets an h shifter and manual transmission it will be dead on arrival sadly..automatic trucking will get boring super fast. I pray they add a manual transmission mode and clutch with shifter before console launch or shortly after..not much of a sim if only automatic. Sucks

  3. road textures are non-existent is some areas.. ETS2 has nothing to worry about!

  4. Meh…

  5. Another comment on the Steam page for this game said that it was not wheel supported. I couldn't help but notice that you're using a wheel. Is it easy to set up? x

  6. Only for pc?

  7. When are we getting more Fernbus Videos? I'm looking forward to your reviews of the new map DLC before I decide if i'm gonna buy it or not. Please play that soon!!!

  8. IM sorry but this is a copy of American Truck Simulator and European Truck Simulator 2. Would be interesting to see you do a comparison video between this game and Euro truck sim 2

Re mirrors on ETS2 you could adjust them can you adjust the mirrors on this game?

  9. I thought you were a little silly there wanting to leave the truck with it in reverse (at the shipper dock). I was thinking, if it is in the game, certainly, you'd want to park it first, before getting out.

    Good video on this game.

  11. the way they can really compete is by making roads system more interesting. doesn't mean huge cities, but instead of having 3000km2 of void between the "walled in" high ways, put quite a few companies in there like a mini community with varied jobs, even internally. some shorter trips. a bit more like, region truck simulator.

Then throw in some other models and events with job offers coming to you some times.

That and it needs to have a smooth performance, force feedback, good vr and eyefinity support. what they should do is let people mod and then throw some money at the good ones, put them in the game and let people play multiplayer.

  12. It's interesting to see another trucking sim to compete with ets 2. The menu overall has a boring, cheap and rushed look to it. However, I for sure see some potential with this.

  13. Looks a nice game but i dont think its better then Eurotruck simulator 2

  14. Looks interesting Mike ~ looking forward to further reviews.

  15. Got this game on my wishlist but it has so many bad reviews i`ll wait with buying . ETS needs to convert their game to the Unreal Engine .

  16. Great video, had this for a while and it gets updates regularly, this update definitely the best so far.

  17. Great video once again Mike. I think this game has promise so long as they keep steady with implementing improvements and features.
By the way, you can get out of the truck in ETS and ATS although it's not a legitimate method. I get out and walk around using developer mode. It's great to be able to to see what you are about to get yourself into regarding parking locations, lol 😂.
Thanks for spending the money to bring us this preview 😊
