Congratulations for your channel, it is a great help to learn. Greetings from Mexico

  5. If something goes begging, it means that it's free to be taken by anybody who wants it.
It's kinda opposite of the meaning that you expect.

So for example there was a party in the office.
at a different department not ours.
and they had a lot of food leftover. and that food went begging. didn't it?

It certainly did. we came down stairs and we were asking "Are those sandwiches going begging? can we?" and they were "Yeah ( )"

The above conversation between Neil and Dan
reminds me of some fruits that went begging a few years ago.

About five years ago, Fruits farmers in Korea produced too much apples for the same season.
So the cost for harvesting apples, such as costs for labors, boxing, storing and transporting, was way over the incomes they would get when they sold it which meant the more they sell apples in market the deeper their losses become.
So they decided All the apples they produced in that season would be going begging.
All you needed for free apples was just a box.
You could just collect as much apples as you want within a box.
    and enjoy it.

Another fruit that went begging was
Mandarin orange in Jeju island in Korea.
There are hundreds mandarin farms in Jeju island. Some of them are run by elderly people.
and there are some abandoned houses where mandarin orange trees grow on their own without caring.
In both cases, chances are high that you would get mandarin oranges going begging.

    Stolen apples are the sweetest?
Just getting a box and collect mandarin oranges that goes begging would be another sweetest experience you can enjoy.

If your dad finds out you've been skipping lessons, he'll go ballistic.
