Dexter: New Blood premieres on Showtime on Nov. 7. Spoiler-free review by Matt Fowler.
Dexter returns, reborn with a few tweaks and fidgets to the formula, but not so as to mask the malicious fun of the hallmarks from the old show that return anew under original showrunner Clyde Phillips. Michael C. Hall slips effortlessly back into his old sociopath role as time away, and change of scenery, has done wonders to revitalize this once-omnipresent pop culture icon. “Cold Snap” is a great and grisly opener for New Blood, setting the stage and delivering a Dexter Morgan doing his damndest to remain chaste on the murder front. Whether or not, contextually, this is all just a shot at a do-over feels irrelevant because New Blood’s mix of old and new holds a ton of promise.
#IGN #Dexter
MAJOR FAILED ENDING!!!!! HATED IT!!!!!!!
Not interested in a second season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dexter is the need reboot ever, they kept the woke thing at bay and that is why it still Works..
The new series is horribly predictable and mundane.
Big things have small beginnings…
The first episode was great! What a pleasure to get back into the world of Dexter Morgan and what an excellent idea to bring Dex' sister back in the smartest way possible.
What a disappointment this one was. We were promised a return to the quality of the first seasons. Instead it is even more pathetic than season 8.
(Warning: Spoilers) The New Blood first episode writing is sloppy, unnecessarily woke injected, cartoon-ish and multiple aspects don't make sense. No one hunts running through the forest (hunting is a stealth process), the white stag scenes would've been fine as a metaphor or a dream sequence. The store owner's sexual preference had nothing to do with the story and the first kill character is so over played like a bull-eye target. IMO the only redeeming scene is the confrontation with the long lost son, rejection and reversal.
Hated the last 4 seasons. This new show is off to a great start. This is gonna be up there with season 1 & 2 finally. So glad Dexter is great again. They nailed it with 8/10. Exactly how I’d score it.
Dexterrrrr 💯
I'm really not expecting anything great from this at all tbh.
Decent episode.
Michael C. Hall is such an amazing actor after so many years he comes back to the role and it still feels like dexter
It was absolutely fantastic.
Great start. Hope they dont ruin it
*Spoiler Alert* what did you guys think about the blood stains in the snow at the ending? I’m dying to talk to someone about it! Lol
After a horrible season 8 I am hopeful that the original creator will bring some deserving ending of this iconic character 😇 by the way Jim leansey is a wacky name…Jim lector could have been a cool new name 😜
Damn, the actor aged really well. He barely looks any older than he did 10 years ago :O
Can’t Wait!
How come you can't see his breath condense in the cold?
All the interior shots of the police station and tavern, which is actually called “West End Pub”, was filmed somewhere else.
Q
It was a great episode.
This whole year felt the same way as 8 years ago, that strange feeling now has dexter, it is amazing how after so much time now the dark passanger is back, tonight is the night, and its going to happen again and again, it has to happen
First episode is amazing. Last 15 minutes are better than entire 8 season.
This review was pretty biased towards the negative. True Dexter fans are likely not going to take this particular review too seriously. At least that's what my wife – aka, a true Dexter fan – tells me. A review should be balanced, not biased, unless it's deserved. Which it isn't in this case.
The guy who played Caldwell definitely channeled some Reservoir Dogs Tim Roth. I'm surprised they're not related.
Great first episode. It was worth the wait.
Loved the first episode and I’m extremely excited to see what the rest of the show has to offer
This was definitely an 11 for me
Thanks, Khalilah! Thanks, Matt! Thanks, Max! 🩸 I thoroughly enjoyed "Cold Snap" and I'm looking forward to the remainder of the limited series.
its perfect
