COVID review panel delivers its report on the coronavirus outbreak in Australia | 7NEWS 2022

October 27, 2022

An independent review into Australia’s COVID response has found that governments ‘overreached’ with locking-down schools and closing borders,- and failed to protect disadvantaged communities.

The 6-month review, which was funded by three private foundations but involves hundreds of submissions across the board, has slammed Australia’s response to the COVID pandemic.

It found lockdowns and border closures were excessive, older Australians should have been better protected, schools should have stayed open and the cost has racked up massive debt that’ll take decades to pay off.

Another major failure was kicking out migrant workers from the country which has been partly blamed for the current jobs shortage crisis.

National Cabinet always maintained they were dealing with life-and-death decisions, and ‘there was no rulebook on this’, but the report finds that politics also played a role in the decision making and that significantly disadvantaged the public.
