After an unfortunate pandemic-related delay in starting local production of the D-Max, the much-anticipated bakkie from Isuzu is finally here. Has it been worth the wait?

We sent our video guy, Ciro De Siena, to find out. In this video we’ll take you through a detailed overview of the 3.0TD LSE 4×4 variant, which is the second from the top of the range, namely the V-Cross.

Price of the 2022 Isuzu D-Max in South Africa (July 2022)

  7. What it actually comes down to is quality, reliability, performance, spares and service backup and warranty plus value for money. The Isuzu in the UK has traditionally sold because it is the cheapest, certainly not due to its engine reliability, performance [we get the 1.9 diesel with Adblue] or best driving experience. Lots of disappointed 1.9 diesel owners and the six speed automatic is ten years behind the times also. Eight speeds makes a massive difference and should be the minimum today. Aisin, who supply the Isuzu auto box, have an excellent eight speed automatic and the only reason for not using it must be cost cutting. Other brands have between eight and ten speed automatics available and well proven.

  8. The Isuzu D-Max is also a nice bukkie to live with. On some reviews I have seen on the internet about this new D-Max is it has a center airbag between the front seats. I wonder if the South African ones has it too. Also, there is something quite interesting which I found about the previous D-Max. When one front tyer goes flat or if there is an imbalance of front tyer pressure, it doesn't affect the driving of the vehicle when driving straight. Even the steering feels as light as it does when both front tyres are balanced in pressure even under acceleration it just drives smoothly. I hope they carried that suspension design to this generation as well.

I find it strange that the warranties are so bad on bakkies, I got a 8 year unlimited km's and 6 year 120K service plan with my 2022 Hilux, I did not ask for such a warrantee.

  15. Welcome to 2009!

Well that's what a bakkie sounds like.

  17. Can you please confirm if the bakkie get the 4jj3 new engine for the south african market?

  18. I’m living in Australia from South Africa and for a while now I’ve had a lower end model which is a 3.0 2wd DC which costs 40k here which is around 450k in SA rand, I get an 8” screen with lane assist, adaptive cruise control, reverse camera and sensors as well as auto gearbox. Sadly for roughly the same price the SA market gets a 1.9 with no major features. It’s quite bad to say the least.

  19. Adriaan Vermaak LOVE you 🤑😍🤔🇬🇼

  20. Does it have apple carplay/android auto?

  21. The bakkie bit…that's why it's called bakkie…🤣

  22. Dmax sound is my favorite diesel sound, my old 2011 2.5l is sounding like a purring cat and i love it

  23. Think that its a decent bakkie but could do with some better looks

  24. Do the Peugeot Landtrek next.
